2007年11月,《美国艺术收藏》杂志采访了画家孙家珮。杂志刊文说:孙家珮的画作中渗透出的中国江南水乡情怀,不仅传达着他对自然之美的深刻感受,更寄托着他对儿时记忆的眷眷怀恋。和“水城”威尼斯和阿姆斯特丹一样,江南水乡也是画家的视觉天堂,水气氤氲,光影互映,天光一色,景色优美。不过孙家珮个人对江南水乡的亲近感更甚于欧洲水城。
“我曾经生活在水乡,那里有我儿时甜蜜的回忆。”孙家珮说,“它是那样地优雅,那样地特别,充盈着大自然的温暖之意,在我幼年的记忆中留下了不可磨灭的印象。我画画时,狭窄蜿蜒的江南水道常勾起我的回忆,当我在小路上徘徊着找寻令我满意的画面时,我发现它们竟然与我记忆中少年时代的景象别无二致。我努力捕捉着每一个令我印象深刻的场景,我满心欢喜地希冀着:任何看到我的画作的人,都能够感受到那份宁静和深情。
孙家珮认为,画作能够为收藏家们凝结起一个平静、安宁的时刻,抚慰那些在城市生活中日日喧嚣的心灵。他希望收藏者们都能如他一样,沉浸到来自自然景观的那种简单和诗意之中。
“空气、光线和水的和谐共生,是浪漫的综合,是生命、灵魂和希望的灵动回响。”孙家珮说,“观众们也能够领悟来自水乡的静默诗意,他们带着在碌碌凡世中追逐的焦虑而来,试图在我的画中寻求心灵的愈合。当我画下他们生活的那一刻,他们就活在那里。”
孙家珮总是被那些美丽的风景所深深吸引和感动,这些画作正由此而来。对他而言,捕捉特定时空下场景的能力,要比描绘人物更有价值,旖旎的风景为他带来了无尽的灵感。
“我画画时就像在捕捉水和光演绎的美妙旋律,又像在倾听微风拂过水面时的喃喃低语。”孙家珮这样说,“我的目标是想在我自己和观众之间建立一种对话,艺术家要通过他们的画作说话,至少我是这样做的。我几乎从不画人物,但你处处可见他们在场的痕迹。我这样做主要是因为我期盼着观众能够参与其间,而事实上,所有的作品,最终都是作者与观众共同完成的。”
孙家珮把自己的成功很大程度上归功于那些喜欢他画作的收藏者。“只有获得他收藏者们的支持,一个艺术家才能继续作画。”他说,“我向那些一直支持我的人们表示感谢,也会一如既往地寻求我们之间的合作。”
Memories of China's River District
Sun Jiapei finds an elegiac subject matter within China's famous Jiang Nan river district that allows him to mediate not only on the beauty of the natural world but also his childhood.
"I have lived in the district, and it is the place where I have sweet memories of my boyhood, " says Jiapei "It is not only sweet, but also a graceful, special place, which gave me warmth of nature and brought me up in my impressionable youth."
Much like Venice and Amsterdam, places that Jiapei has also painted, the canals of Jiang Nan are a visual paradise for artists as it combines the symmetrical lines of the city with the painterly reflections and light affects afforded by the water. However, there is a much more personal connection to this district than the other European locales.
"The narrow canal of the riverside district I paint stirs up my memories," says Jiapei. "When I walk down the small passages and find scenes I would like to paint, they are the same scenes I would find in my boyhood. I paint scenes that have a healing impact and are in that way worthy of capturing. It is my wish and pleasure that whoever sees my work feels a sense of serenity and sympathy. "
Jiapei also sees the work as offering a moment of peace and calm for collectors who are caught up in the hustle of daily urban life. Like him, he wants collectors to become immersed in the simplicity and poetry of these natural scenes.
"The harmony of air, light and water; the romantic composition; the spiritual sense of life, soul and hope," says Jiapei. "The audience also appreciates the poetic silence of the picturesque river districts. They are people who are chased and stressed by their daily routine and seek healing in my paintings. They live in my paintings moments of their lives."
Jiapei has always been drawn to landscapes, such as these in his new exhibition. For him, the ability to capture a moment of time and place is much more rewarding than painting figures. With landscapes, he is able to invite into the painting more easily.
"I draw a note played by water and light, whisper of the breeze on the surface of water and sounds of water and breeze in my work," says Jiapei. "My aim in my work is to create a conversation between myself and the audience. The artist speaks through when they paint, at least I do. I hardly ever paint people even though you may see signs of their presence. I do this primarily because I want the viewer to participate in the scene; in essence, to complete the painting together. "
Jiapei feels that he owes much of his success as an artist to his many collectors.
"An artist can only continue to paint when he has the support of his collectors," says Jiapei. "I am very thankful to all those who have supported me in this way, and I will continue my quest with their support."
